What is a computer virus?

Computer viruses are programs created to manipulate your computer system, and are commonly sent via e-mail attachments. They can delete, create, and modify files on your system. This can result in you not being able to start your computer, losing all or part of your files, and/or passing the virus on to every person in your e-mail address book. Some viruses are specifically designed to corrupt your hard drive so hackers can gain access to your personal data. For information on various viruses, check any of the following links:

What if you suspect your system has been infected with a virus?

Anti-virus software scans your system and eliminates viruses from your computer. When a virus is detected, the software removes it and cleans your hard drive. There are many anti-virus programs available. Here are links to a few:
