The first schools in the area were built of logs and served the public until the school law of 1852 was passed. It provided funds for the construction of public schools with a new property tax. Several frame structures were built at that time.

Wakeland School
Wakeland School, also known as Shoutin' Hill School, may have been built about the same time as Olive School, in the 1880s. Bricks from Wingler's Brick Company were used to construct the building on the west side of Wakeland Road, north of Lewisville Road. The school is now a pile of brick and roofing. Myrtle Ratts taught at Wakeland School. Other teachers were: James Barrell, Jim Wilson, Robert Edwards, Luthe Arend, Goldie Asher, George Means, Grant Cooper, Nellie (White) Kersey, June (Summers) Hart, Ella (Fidler) Williams, Marie (Dorsett) Harper, Ruth (Paul) Shields, Corna Edwards, Kenneth Watson, Ruby (Pottorff) Shuler, Bertha (Colwell) Hedrick and Kenneth Watson. In 1913 George Means taught the classes at Wakeland School and students attending were from the families of Hedrick, Ham, Ratts, Costin, Syke, Stierwalt, Elliott, Knoy, Colwell, Walters, Shoemaker, Watson, Dalton, Favors, Baker, Baugh, Warthen, and Gray.

Olive School was built of Wingler Brick in 1882. It was located across from the Olive Christian Church, on Olive Church Road. In 1906 Hazel Myrick was the teacher and the families represented in the student body were: Ratts, Shuler, McDowell, Guy, Ground, White, Phares, Gray, Syke, and Williams. Myrtle Ratts taught at Olive School and Wakeland School.

Lewisville School served some of the Wakeland children. Two years of high school was taught there until 1915. Ashland Township consolidated with Eminence School in 1949 and the last year classes were held in Lewisville was 1950.

Eminence Consolidated School is the local school today. It currently has 460 students in grades K - 12.
