An early church structure in the area of Hyndsdale was the
Union Church, also known as the Old Brick Church and the Mount Gilead
Church. It was reportedly located one and one half miles west of
Hyndsdale. The church cemetery is located in Section 10, one mile
south of State Road 676 at Hyndsdale and Canatsey Roads. This
building housed at least three congregations through the years.
In1875 the Mount Gilead Christian (Disciples of Christ) Congregation
started meeting in Union Church. Their records state that they met
once a month and that the building was also used by a Methodist
congregation. It also reports that the building was later jointly
owned by the Mount Gilead Baptist Congregation and the Mount Gilead
Christian Congregation.
The Mount Gilead Baptist Church was founded sometime after
1840 by Luke C. Kennedy, Harvey Sheppard, A.J. Duncan, Alexander Knox
and W.C. Townsend. In 1875 there were 36 members. The Sabbath School
Superintendent was Joseph Morrison and the average attendance was 30.
No pastor listed at that time.
The Presbyterian Church was reportedly located one-half mile
west of Hyndsdale. The pastor was T. Ferguson and there were 30
members. H. Shepler was Superintendent of the Sunday School where the
average attendance was 45.

Mount Gilead Christian Church became Hyndsdale Christian Church when they built their own structure. It is located at 3695 Old State Road 67 South. The lot was donated by Leonard Canatsey and was dedicated on April 28, 1907.
