In 1854 there were eight schools in Monroe Township, one was the Gasburg School. It was built with unused funds from the school district treasury after a law for funding was voted down in 1853. The brick structure, which stands on the same site, was constructed in about 1879. It was a one-room school and served grades one through eight. Congressman William Bray attended elementary school at Gasburg School. In 1919, the teacher was Opal Garrett and the students were from the families of: Colee, Tincher, Doan, Head, Keller, Sweet, Baldwin, and Medsker. The Monrovia School System absorbed Gasburg School in 1920.
