This document is only basic setup instructions for Mac OS8. If you wish to configure and use other Internet software, like Netscape, Eudora, WS_FTP, etc. you can download them by going to the TUCOWS link on our web page. The address is: http://www.iquest.net
Double click on your Hard Disk icon. Find and double click on your Internet folder.
Find and double click on Internet Setup Assistant.
Near the middle of the window, there are two buttons. Click Update.
This will open the first of 11 windows, please follow the following instruction for each window. You will have to click the right arrow in the lower right of the screen after each of the following instructions.
Read the introduction.
Choose Add Internet Configuration.
For the name of the configuration, type SCICAN Internet.
Choose the correct make and model of modem. If one doesnt match exactly, choose the one closest to your make and model. Select the proper port. Select tone or pulse dialing.
Type in the appropriate SCICAN Dial-Up number (349-5840). For the Name You Use With This Service, type your IPUSERNAME (your USERNAME with a 1). For password, type your PASSWORD
For Is there an IP address for this configuration, select No.
The first box asks for DNS address. Type 204.95.230.20. The second box asks for Domain Name. Type scican.net.
For e-mail address, type USERNAME@scican.net. For e-mail password, type your PASSWORD.
For e-mail account, type USERNAME@scican.net. For e-mail host, type scican.net
For news server, type news.iquest.net.
You have completed setting up your Mac. If you wish to connect immediately, make sure Connect When Finished is checked. Click on Go Ahead to install your settings.
Double-click on your Hard Disk icon and choose the Internet folder.
Double-click on Internet Dialer icon.
Make sure that Via: is set to SCICAN Internet.
Click Connect. Your computer will now connect to the Internet. You may open the Internet application you wish to use.
MacOS8 automatically sets up two Short Cuts on your Macintosh desktop. To use the Internet, always remember to use the dialer to get online first. To get to a browser, simply double click on the Browse the Internet icon. Additionally, you can use the Connect To icon to directly connect to any Web Address. Both will open your browser. To get to e-mail, choose the Mail short cut. Remember that you can also use any Internet program by directly double clicking on it.
